Brockenchack Wines in Eden Valley South Australia

WHO IS BROCKENCHACK WINE?

In the Barossa's picturesque Eden Valley, Brockenchack sits on 106 acres of land, with approximately 43 acres of vines. Driven by a love of wine and some big aspirations, Brokenchack winery was first purchased by owner Trevor Harch and wife Marylin in 2007 as a retirement plan. However, they soon found they couldn’t resist their ‘Garden of Eden’ and have lived on the vineyard homestead since 2013.

Today, Brockenchack is a family affair. In fact, the name itself is derived from the names of the couple's four beautiful grandchildren. Running the winery is a family affair, too. Trevor focuses on tending to the land he loves and enlists his business savvy son-in-law Darren Naylor to take on the day-to-day operations. This works well as Darren brings incredible experience and knowledge from 13 years in the wine industry.

Of course, the palate popping wines are pretty spectacular, too! Eden Valley is home to some of the world’s oldest Shiraz and Riesling vineyards, planted in 1896. These nestle alongside Shiraz vines dating back to 1927, and all the grapes produce brilliant wines. The first 2008 vintage produced at Brockenchack blew Trevor away! Now the acres under vine include new varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

Regardless of the varietal, every vine at Brockenchack is lovingly tended. The grapes they produce are turned into delicious wines, each named for a Harch family member or something else special to the family (naturally!). These are handcrafted, boutique wines you will just love to drink. And from the fresh and zingy On Point Pinot Grigio to the lush velvety 2018 D.E.N Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, there is a wine for every palate.

RESTORATION, GROWTH AND ACCOLADES

Growing the vineyard has been a labour of love for the family. In 2007 their Riesling vines      were weak and needed care, attention and time. And, in fact, they took two years to restore. But today (with time and huge family effort) the vineyard has grown from 20 acres under vine in 2007 to 42 acres.

But to bring the winery up to its current wonderful state the Brockenchack team needed more than just top notch vines. They also needed to elevate the entire experience. So they undertook a stunning restoration of the old community butcher shop, creating their new historic cellar door. Another renovation saw them turning the original 1880s vineyard homestead into an onsite luxury bed and breakfast accommodation (including spa house) with 360 degrees of stunning vineyard views.

This restoration and growth has proven to be just what the winery needed. And they have received a well-deserved wealth of accolades and awards for their 14 years of hard work (including winning Eden Valley Winery of the Year at the Melbourne International Wine Competition 2021!). Each wine produced here is a delicious testament to the family effort that has gone into raising this heart-felt winery. Trevor plans to continue the family legacy of producing premium wines that exceed expectations. And we’re so glad we get to enjoy them, too!
