Collection: Red Rock Olives

Owners Rita Bikins and David Margetson took over the business in May 2013 and refreshed the brand. The couple have combined Rita’s past Melbourne business experience, with David’s 40+ years of agriculture and farming.
Rita was based in Melbourne, constantly frustrated with the waste created by the city lifestyle – the paper in offices, food packaging and fast food. David worked for Project Platypus, a landcare organisation focused on revegetating the Grampians area. The couple met whilst tree-planting in the Wimmera area.
Together, they hope to have a small environmental footprint and promote the incredible health benefits extra virgin olive oil has to offer, as well as the importance on buying local from local producers.

Red Rock Olives is located near Gariwerd (the Grampians), which has a similar climate to the Mediterranean. This climate is ideal for growing olives trees, with drought resistant fruit that can tolerate 40ºC summers and cold winters.
The olive grove remains organically grown, chemical-free and uses sheep to prune regrowth on the trees and grass. This also returns the nutrients of the plant back into the soil. Red Rock Olives likes to call this method “munch and mulch”.
The previous owners planted more than 5,000 trees enclosed in 18 hectares of kangaroo proof fencing in 1997.
