Grandvewe Cheesemaker Pack
Grandvewe Cheesemaker Pack
Tasmania's Finest Cheesemaker
We love working with our cheesemakers. Their passion shows in the artful way they craft their cheeses. Grandvewe is no exception, a maker who has taken all of the hardest paths possible. Innovation, the environment and sustainability are key. In this special pack we include four cheeses that they have chosed to highlight what is currently in season and at its best.
In this pack you will get:
- Gin Herbalist Sheep's Milk
- Primavera Sheep's Milk
- Toto Sheep's Milk
- Old Man Sheep's Milk
- Tasting & Pairing Notes
Who is Grandvewe?
Grandvewe is located 40 mins due South of Hobart overlooking the calm waters between Bruny Island and the "mainland" (as mainland as Tasmania can get). This family run farm and cheesemaking operation also includes Hartshorn Distillery for handmade gin and vodka, sometimes more. Can life get any better? The slow life of Birchs Bay makes it easier to mature these wheels of Primavera for 12 months, waiting for the next flow of Spring milk from the farm.
What are the cheeses*?
This pack includes four cheeses that will thrill you and your tastebuds - every single one is exceptional.
SEMI HARD: Gin Herbalist
Milk | Vegetarian
Gin and cheese. Of course! Grandvewe also make sheep whey gin so why not combine the two? After Head Distiller Ryan distills his gin, the spent Australian botanicals are rubbed on the outside to create a very unique cheese that has won them much praise across the country. It even won Best Cheese as the recent World Dairy Innovation Awards! Yes, you're right to be intrigued now!
Milk | Vegetarian
Nicole took the centuries old Spanish recipe of Manchego to create this Primavera for you. Rather than trying to alter the recipe to suit, like many other makers might, Nicole stuck to her guns to make a Manchego the way tradition states, but allowed for the terroir of her piece of heaven to give it distinct characteristics that make it more Tasmanian.
Milk | Vegetarian
When young, Toto has a semi-soft to firm texture but let it mature and ripen up (we like pushing this one past its best before date) so it can become a real softie at heart. Mmm nothing like a soft, gooey cheese! This is Toto at its best. Enjoy the mushroom and earth-like aromas with a sweet, lactic paste that just keeps getting better.
HARD: Old Man
Milk | Vegetarian
Gandvewe wash the rind with Brevi Linens and use Cardon Thistle as the rennet of choice, giving the old man a nice rind. Originally crafted so Grandvewe could use the Raclette machine, it melts well on toast, potatoes or anything really! Gooey, warm, melted goodness he is!
5 Reasons why you should buy these:
- Grandvewe is a very small family-owned cheesemaker who needs help. They need your support to buy a wheel so they can survive and help their sheep's milk suppliers survive as well.
- Sheep's milk has twice as much protein as cow and goat milk - a wonderfood!
- It has four times more vitamin C than goat milk (there's none in cow's milk).
- It has roughly 1.5 times the Vitamin B12, Calcium, Magnesium and Folate of the other two major milks.
* Cheeses may change without notice if they become unavailable. In this case, we will substitute with another great cheese.
Blessed are the cheesemakers.

DETAILS ABOUT DELIVERY CAN BE FOUND HERE.
Where do you deliver to?
We deliver to all parts of Australia! I know, it's exciting for us too. For most customers, your order will be delivered in a refrigerated vehicle. For the small number of customers in far flung regions, we use Australia Post and utilise our highly specialised insulation and gel pack system to ensure your cheese arrives in great condition.
Will my order be delivered with a refrigerated vehicle or Australia Post?
90% of our customers will have their order delivered in a refrigerated vehicle. This means that the entire journey is refrigerated from us to your door. Those outside our refrigerated network will be sent via Australia Post. When we send via AusPost, we use a special insulation and gel pack system to ensure your cheese arrives fresh.
You can look up your postcode to see if you are part of our refrigerated network here - cheesetherapy.com/ColdDelivery
When will my order be shipped?
We know you want cheese BAD! This means that we will dispatch most days of the week. 90% of our deliveries are part of our refrigerated delivery network so these will leave us most days of the week. Your order is kept refrigerated the entire journey from when it leaves us to when it arrives at your door. Ding dong!
If you are in a harder to reach location, we have to use Australia Post. We have created a specialised insulation product to handle the arduous journey so that your cheese arrives fresh. We actually teamed up with a vaccine transport company in 2020 to develop our packaging to ensure we have the World's Best solution. We only ship via AusPost on Monday and Tuesday to ensure we don't run the risk of your cheese sitting in a hot warehouse somewhere over the weekend.
How much is shipping?
We charge a simple flat rate fee for all orders UNDER $150 of $14.95. Spend over $150 and shipping is FREE!
Can I track my order?
Your order will have all the tracking info needed to ensure a successful delivery. We are constantly upgrading our capabilities to ensure you are happy and have any concerns about where your order is. For items being delivered in a refrigerated vehicle, we offer a higher level of tracking including same day notifications and estimated delivery times to ensure you know when your goodies are coming.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you require assistance.
Q: Will the Therapy Box always be available?
A: The Therapy Box was created to support Australian cheesemakers facing the challenges in 2020 of bushfires, then coronavirus impacting their small businesses. We have committed to offering a new Therapy Box each month to feature and share the handmade, artisanal work of the Australian cheesemaking industry – we will stick by them for as long as they need us!
Q: I ordered a pack 2 weeks ago and my cheese isn’t here yet?
A: There’s generally a week turnaround now from ordering to delivery, just due to demand across Australia from cheese lovers wanting to support our cheesemakers. We process every order in turn, to be fair. We’ve been packing and shipping cheese around the clock and our cheesemakers are working hard to keep up! If you have an order number, we are packing it for you. Once you receive a tracking number, your pack is being shipped and should take just a few days to arrive; your tracking number enables you to follow its progress and you will receive an alert upon its arrival.
Depending on your postcode, your pack will either arrive via Australia Express Post or Home Delivery Service cold couriers.
PLEASE NOTE: Some cheese packs are a preorder and have the date of delivery noted at the top of the product page in red.
Q: Where do you deliver?
A: We can deliver anywhere in Australia and have shipped to cheese lovers in many rural and remote areas from the NT to WA to Tasmania! We do not ship our packs overseas.
Q: My cheese pack arrived warm and the frozen gel packs have melted, is it ok to eat?
A: Cheese is hardy, so if it looks good, smells and tastes good, they are. We always advise people to go by their own digression. Cheese is best served once left out of the fridge for an hour to allow the flavours to come through. The “best by” date is a guide and we find that cheese will ripen for another 2 or more weeks, refrigerated. If you’re in doubt, please contact us at email@example.com
Q: My cheese has arrived close to the Best By date – is it ok to eat?
A: Cheesemakers often joke that this should be a “Best After” date, because it indicates when the cheese is ripening and starting to really show its characteristics and flavours; many makers and cheese lovers try to wait for as long as we can to let the cheese mature and develop. The rind and cheese will change in colour, mould may darken and the cheese flavours become stronger, earthier, nuttier and tastier! Our cheeses are all freshly delivered from the maker and have an approximate refrigerated life of 3 weeks if kept wrapped – if you can hold off that long. We recommend giving it a go!
Our cheeses are left with the cheesemaker for a long a possible to prevent bland, unripened cheese going to our customers.
FUN FACT - if you see cheese marked down in the supermarket because it is close to Best Before date - take advantage of this bargain! This is when cheese is becoming its best and ripe state. This is exactly how the cheesemaker intends it to be eaten.
USE BY DATE: Use by dates are different to Best Before dates. Fresh cheeses, such as ricotta, chevres or feta should be consumed by their Use By date.
Q: How do you keep the cheese cold during delivery?
A: If we express post, we pack all cheeses with care into high quality food safe packaging with frozen gel packs and insulation materials to keep your cheese in ideal condition for several days.
If your pack is sent via our Home Delivery courier service, we refrigerate it all the way to your door and will either leave it for you with frozen gel packs, or can pop it into your esky if you leave it out for us when you are notified the driver is coming.
Q: I’m worried about the condition of my cheese that has not yet arrived?
A: We take utmost care to ensure your cheese arrives in perfect condition, however we recognise that Australia Post has encountered delivery issues this year. If your cheese doesn't arrive in a great shape, please contact our customer service team via firstname.lastname@example.org so we can assist or replace it for you.
Q: There is mould or discolouring on the exterior of my cheese, is it safe to eat?
A: Many cheeses have washed rinds that will change in colour as they ripen, as will the texture and colour of your cheese. This is normal for artisanal, handmade cheese and really sets it apart from bland supermarket cheese that all looks and taste the same. True cheese aficionados like to let cheese ripen and take as long as possible to eat it so that it fully develops all of the characters that a cheesemaker is aiming for. Cheese is like vintage wine; it gets better with age! The tasting notes we provide try to explain the ageing of your cheese and how to best enjoy it. If you are in doubt, please contact our customer service team.
Q: Can I add other items to my order, like wine or crackers?
A: Yes! We have curated a Grazing Box with handmade, artisnal goodies from small, Australian producers. You can bundle this with your cheese pack.
We also work with a local winery and can organise a bottle of wine on bulk orders. Please email our team at email@example.com if this is something you are interested in.
Q: Do you do customised or private cheese tastings?
A: Yes, we do! We can provide small group, corporate and special tasting events – please contact our customer service team via firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and we will chat with you about your event needs.
Q: If I subscribe, what do I get each month?
A: Each Cheese Club Pack will include 4 cheeses, including hard, soft, stinky (washed rind) and blue cheeses. Our aim is to share a love for trying new cheese, so we seek out great cheese in advance to include in our Therapy Boxes and Globetrotter packs that may not be easy for you to find yourself.
Q: Can I choose how often my subscription cheese arrives, pause my subscription or skip a month?
A: Yes! You can select how often your cheese will arrive to your door when you sign up, you can skip a delivery at any time if you give us a little notice. You can also pause it for any reason and length of time you need. Subscriptions require you to sign up for at least 3 deliveries to fulfil the upfront discount we provide, but you can decide when to get your cheese.
Q: How much is it to subscribe?
A: The Cheese Club is $80 each month plus delivery if applicable. You will get 4 amazing cheeses delivered to your door. You can also choose to subscribe to either our all Australian Therapy Box or our Globetrotter pack that contains a mix of the world.
Q: How should I store cheese?
A: We recommend that you keep the cheese in the paper that we send it in. The cheese paper is a specialty paper to let the cheese breathe. Plastic wrap is less ideal, although some makers do use it. It’s ideal to keep it in the dairy compartment of your fridge as this will protect it from their air movement. If you keep your cheese in containers, ensure you keep them in separate containers as the flavours and aromas of one cheese can penetrate another milder cheese.
Q: What temperature is best for serving cheese?
A: The ideal way to serve cheese is at room temperature (approx. 22 degrees). The general rule of thumb is to leave your cheese out for 1 hour prior to serving. Obviously, the ambient temperature will dictate how long you leave it out but serving cheese at room temperature will allow the flavours and aromas to be at their peak. Nothing beats a soft cheese that starts to melt and ooze a little, sharing its aromas and flavours!
Q: How do I stop cheese from stinking my fridge out?
A: As beautiful as washed rind cheese can be, you don't really want it stinking the whole fridge out! Wrapping it in plastic or placing it into zip lock bags won't cut it, as plastic absorbs the smell. The best thing to do is place the cheese (still in its wrapping) into a glass container. This will contain the smell and stop if from infiltrating the rest of the fridge.
Instead of the usual champagne from my sister, who lives OS, she organised a delivery of this delicious cheese tasting platter for her five siblings and their partners plus nieces and nephews. It was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone with plenty to go around and some left over for the next day! Thank you
Having an intolerance to lactose, cheese has been off my menu for many years. Having a chat to the lovely folk from Grandvewe at Perth Good Food & Wine show a few years back (along with some tastings) I found that sheep milk cheese is something that most ppl with lactose intolerance can have with little to no symptoms! I ordered a variety box and loved every bite. Also the Pinot Paste paired with Old Man is to die for! Thank you for the deliciousness xx
Living half a world away, it is sometimes hard to find the right gift for my daughter and to get it there on time. I was able to order just the product that she loves, and was alerted by email along its route to her. She gave the cheese high marks, and loved the additional goodies that came in the kit. I only wish I could have been there to enjoy it with her. I will be back!
I'm not usually a sucker for marketing but when I saw Grandvewe featured on ABC's Movin' to the Country I fell in love. The best bit is the cheese lived up to my heightened expectations. Old Man was delectable and the Gin Herbalist can only be described as a party for your taste buds. Cheesus may be Grandvewe's owner's saviour but their wares are mine. Thank you, you crafty, courageous cheesemakers.
Fast delivery, and beautiful cheeses, thank you. I also appreciate the sense of humour of the Cheese Therapy organisation. Outstanding experience, thank you.
