The National Cheese Trail
Located in South Gippsland, Berry’s Creek sits within a lush farming district shaped by rolling green hills, high rainfall and a long dairying tradition. European settlement expanded through the district in the late nineteenth century, when South Gippsland’s fertile soils and reliable pasture made it one of Victoria’s important dairy regions. That agricultural backbone still defines the landscape today.
Today the area remains strongly connected to dairy, but it has broadened into mixed farming, cool-climate wine and a food destination. The nearby towns of Fish Creek and Meeniyan are popular stops for local produce, galleries and cafés, while the wider region is now firmly established as one of Victoria’s standout food-and-drink destinations.
Late summer and autumn are especially rewarding, when the countryside is still green, farm gates are busy and the coast is at its most inviting. There are many local farmers’ market. A leisurely drive through the hills, and time at nearby Wilsons Promontory are very rewarding.
