Milawa Cheese

Handmade with Heart.
Perfected by Tradition.

Milawa Cheese Company is a family-owned artisan cheesemaker in Milawa, Victoria’s High Country. Founded in 1988 by David and Annie Brown, Milawa makes and matures small-batch cow’s and goat’s milk cheeses using fresh local milk and traditional European techniques.

The Browns bought the old Milawa Butter Factory and, with cheesemaker Richard Thomas, set out to make distinctive Australian cheese. Their first blue cheese was inspired by a memorable taste of Northern Italy and helped establish Milawa as one of the country’s pioneering artisan cheesemakers.

Today, their daughter Ceridwen leads the family business, carrying forward its hands-on, flavour-first approach. From creamy brie and chèvre to washed rinds and its much-loved Milawa Blue, every cheese is carefully made and matured until it is ready to enjoy.

Milawa Cheese Company remains closely connected to its High Country home, where good local milk, patient maturation and a genuine love of cheese have shaped its award-winning range for almost four decades.
