This month, we are heading to the Adelaide Hills for a cheese that feels as though it was made for the season: Flower Power by Kris Lloyd Artisan at Woodside Cheese Wrights.

Flower Power is a cooked-curd, semi-hard goat’s milk cheese, scattered with marigolds, cornflowers, native thyme and seasonal flowers. It is as beautiful on the board as it is to eat, with a soft, pliable texture and a rich nutty flavour, grassy notes and a gentle lift of native thyme.

It is a joyful piece of Australian cheesemaking. Kris Lloyd has spent decades making cheese in the Adelaide Hills, adapting traditional European techniques to celebrate the character of local milk and the flavours of this country. Flower Power was named Best of Class at the 2024 World Championship Cheese Contest, and one bite makes it easy to see why.

Serve it simply with crisp crackers, a little finger lime paste and something cool to drink. Or take it outside, let the afternoon stretch on and give spring the sort of welcome it deserves.

The October Therapy Box brings together five different expressions of Australian cheesemaking: a floral goat’s milk cheese from the Adelaide Hills, a creamy Victorian blue, two golden halloumi cheeses from the Gold Coast and a bold washed rind from the Northern Rivers.

The October Therapy Box also includes:

• Milawa Blue | Milawa Cheese Co. (150g)
  A creamy, mild blue inspired by Gorgonzola Dolce. It has a soft, buttery paste and a delicate sweetness that makes it a lovely introduction to blue cheese.

• Chilli & Garlic Halloumi | Gold Coast Cheese Co. (200g)
  Made with full-cream cow’s milk, this springy halloumi is full of savoury flavour, with chilli and garlic adding a gentle warmth. Slice it thick and grill until golden for the barbecue or a quick spring salad.

• Traditional Cow’s Milk Halloumi | Gold Coast Cheese Co. (200g)
  Buttery, salty and satisfyingly squeaky, this is proper halloumi made in the traditional style. Pan-fry it until crisp and caramelised at the edges, then serve while it is still warm.

• Nashua Washed Rind | Nimbin Valley Dairy (150g)
  One of Australia’s early washed rinds, inspired by the French Époisses tradition. Given time to ripen, its paste becomes smooth and creamy, with the bold, savoury character washed rind lovers come looking for.

• Green Olives in Brine | Mount Zero Olives (150g)
  Plump green olives in a clean, savoury brine, bringing a welcome salty contrast to the creamy and floral cheeses.

• Natural Crispbread | Falwasser
  Light, crisp and ready for layering with Flower Power, blue cheese or a generous spoonful of finger lime paste.

This is a box for a spring table. Fire up the barbecue, put a platter in the middle, pour something cold and invite a few good people around. There is plenty here for grazing, grilling and lingering long after lunch was meant to finish.

The October Grazing Box, Spring Flavours, Ready to Share

• Muscatels | On The Side 🍇
  Intensely sweet, plump dried grapes with rich caramel-like depth. A classic match for Milawa Blue, and a lovely sweet contrast to the floral savouriness of Flower Power.

• Hazelnut Chocolate | Hunted & Gathered 🍫
  Crunchy hazelnuts wrapped in chocolate for a little richness at the end of the board. Particularly good alongside blue cheese and muscatels.

• Finger Lime Paste | Mountainside Finger Limes (100g) 🍋
  Bright, tangy and distinctly Australian, with the lively citrus character of finger limes. Spoon it beside Flower Power or halloumi to bring a fresh, zesty lift to the board.

Together, these additions bring sweetness, crunch and bright citrus to the October Grazing Box. Just add a board, a knife and a little spring cheese therapy.
