The National Cheese Trail
Located in the Central Tablelands of NSW, Orange is shaped by rich volcanic soils, cool winters, warm summers and the presence of Gaanha bula, Mount Canobolas. This ancient volcano is one of the region’s defining landmarks, watching over a district long shaped by farming and food production.
Orange developed a strong agricultural identity built around orchards, grazing, mixed farming and, later, cool-climate wine. Today Orange has grown into one of NSW’s standout food-and-wine destinations, known for cellar doors, local produce, restaurants, cafés and a strong community of growers and makers.
Second Mouse Cheese Co sits right in that food landscape. The business began making cheese in 2013 and sources milk from local family-owned independent dairies.
Autumn is especially rewarding, with Orange FOOD Week celebrating the region’s produce, while winter brings crisp air, fireside meals and cheese-and-wine weather.
